Permits and preliminary ethical review

The individual-level health and welfare data managed by the authorities always requires an official permit to use. As a rule, the permits must be applied for separately with each authority.

In addition to the use permit, a research permit from the organisation acting as the research site may be required, as well as certain reports to the authorities. Research that deals with sensitive data often also requires a preliminary ethical review.

A permit service allowing centralised applications for permits to data from several authorities is in development.
